Chair of the committee of ambassadors on visit to the OACPS-SSTC centre in Malabo

The Chairman of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors, HE Daniel Emery Dede, and the Secretary General of the OACPS, H.E. Georges Rebelo Pinto CHIKOTI, carried out a working mission to the OACPS-SSTC centre to assess the state of installation of the centre and meet with the authorities of the host country to discuss the strengthening of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation. 

The delegation first visited the headquarters of the OACPS-SSTC Centre and held a meeting with the centre’s staff. During this meeting, the Director of the centre presented the status of operationalization of the centre, which included the main activities already carried out and those in progress since its opening.

The Chair of the Committee of ambassadors and the Secretary General noted with great satisfaction the successful installation phase of the centre, thanks to the support of the host country.  They appreciated and encouraged the initiatives to promote and strengthen the South-South and Triangular Cooperation proposed by the centre in its first strategic plan 2022-2025.

During the visit, the SG and the chair the CoA were received in audience by the 1st Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Equatorial Guinea, HE Clemente Nguema Onguene, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. HE the Secretary General took the opportunity to thank H.E. the Deputy Prime Minister for the constant support of the Government of Equatorial Guinea to the OACPS Secretariat in general and in particular to the OACPS-SSTC centre in Malabo..  

He briefed his host on the importance of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Centre for OACPS, stressing that South-South Cooperation is one of the best responses of the African continent and the ACP as a whole to the various development challenges it faces. He paid tribute to President Obiang for his vision and leadership in support of this model of cooperation. The Secretary General discussed other important topics affecting the life of the OACPS such as the status of the EG’s contributions to the Budget and the upcoming Luanda Summit in December 2022. 

HE the Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Secretary General and the President of the CoA for their visit to Equatorial Guinea and wished them, on behalf of the President of the Republic, a welcome and a pleasant stay in Equatorial Guinea. He reiterated his country’s commitment and readiness to support the OACPS.  He thanked the Secretary-General for his effective leadership of the Organization and reiterated his country’s support and pledged good attention to certain issues that required follow-up. 

During the visit, the Chair CoA and the Secretary General had an opportunity to meet with the OACPS Ambassadors and Head of Diplomatic Missions in Malabo, whereby the two leaders briefed the OACPS diplomats in Malabo on the state of the Organization, the promotion of South-South and Triangular Cooperation within the OACPS as well as other important issues such as the New OACPS-EU Partnership.
